VANCOUVER - Olympic organizers have launched their much-hyped ticket resale website, saying it should help solve the perennial problem of empty seats at Olympic events.
Organizers say the official resale site will also guard against online fraudsters selling fake seats.
They've removed the price cap on ticket resales, and will instead allow fans to charge as much as they can for unwanted seats.
Ticket holders will be able to charge whatever they like so that they'll actually use the official resale site, but they'll also have the option of giving extra tickets away for free to local charities.
The committee has also placed more tickets on sale to the public and announced they're holding a ticket auction for seats at gold medal hockey, figure skating and the opening ceremonies.
Of the 1.6 million tickets available to the Games, about 75 per cent have been placed on sale to the public, with the rest reserved for sponsors and Olympic officials.
