YARMOUTH, N.S. - The mayor of Yarmouth, N.S., will be part of a delegation that will lobby the provincial government to save the ferry service between the western part of the province and Maine.
Phil Mooney says he will meet with Premier Darrell Dexter in Halifax on Wednesday.
Last week Bay Ferries Ltd. announced it was ending the CAT ferry run with the loss of 120 jobs.
Mooney says he's received calls from tourism operators from Nova Scotia and the state of Maine who say they will suffer if ferry service isn't restored.
Mooney is also urging the public to sign an online petition that will be presented to Dexter.
Meanwhile, the town of Yarmouth has opened an office and assigned a town employee as part of its own ferry rescue plan.
