N.S. airline says additional govt funding would have helped it succeed

HALIFAX - Starlink Aviation says an additional $500,000 could have allowed the company to continue passenger service from the Yarmouth airport in Nova Scotia until a federal grant came in.
Company spokeswoman Brenda Libby says the additional funds could have carried the service past the end of January, when a $3 million federal grant the airline believed it stood to get would have allowed the carrier to develop other projects.
Those other projects included a mechanic school and a flying school operating out of the Yarmouth airport, which Libby says would have helped the airline.
The Montreal-based carrier announced last week that it would suspend service from the Yarmouth airport, where it began operating flights to Halifax and Portland, Maine, in February.
The air service was funded by a $2 million provincial government subsidy, which was supposed to last for five years.
The province has asked the Yarmouth International Airport Corp. to account for the money, the result of which may play a role in the province's decision to contribute more money to air service in Yarmouth.

Right! We should give another $500,000 to a couple of Quebec sharpies who plowed through a four-year cash gift in 9 months, in order to have them suck more money for additional, badly-planned projects. I would suggest that a close look at the Yarmouth Airport Commission and their relationship to the Tory govt who approved this hair-brained scheme might be a better use of tax dollars.

If you follow the money, you might find the same crew who is at work behind the scenes trying to scuttle the Digby Ferry so that a fantasy-based, year-round Yarmouth Ferry project can get some legs.

Why was the public NOT made aware of the additional money required to hold Starlink over until 2010?
By keeping it a secret the public could not know and lobby for it.
