TRURO - Defence Minister Peter MacKay was in attendance Wednesday to see Scott Armstrong sworn in as Cumberland Colchester Musquodoboit Valley's newest member of
Parliament.
The two knew each other as young Progressive Conservatives and their friendship grew when both attended Acadia University at the same time. MacKay graduated in 1987 while Armstrong graduated the following year.
"We've been friends for a long, long time," Armstrong said, noting it was a nice gesture on behalf of MacKay to leave national caucus to be at the ceremony.
"It's really nice to know a good friend like that has got your back."
Since Armstrong arrived in Ottawa MacKay, who has been an MP since 1997, has helped his friend get accustomed to his new job.
Armstrong's girlfriend Tammy Stewart, parents David and Tillie Armstrong as well as other family attended the swearing in. One of Armstrong's campaign managers, Jeff Hunt, and Colchester North Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia president Glen Rankin also made the trip to Ottawa.
