STELLARTON, N.S. - A road in Stellarton, N.S., has been closed by a large sinkhole.
The sinkhole on Foord Street, near the Sobeys head office building, was discovered Monday but grew Tuesday to three or four metres in diameter and six metres deep.
Town police shut down access to Highway 104 as public works crews attempted to repair the sinkhole that collapsed half the road and exposed a sewer pipe.
Town engineer Tony Addis said the hole was probably caused by old sub-surface mining in the area.
