PUGWASH - A local farmer was airlifted to hospital this afternoon after getting caught in a hay baler.

Keith Irving was using the machine on his Gulf Shore Road farm when his foot slipped and got caught inside the running machine.

RCMP, EHS and members of the Pugwash Fire Department responded to the incident just before 2 p.m.

Const. Dolan of the Pugwash RCMP said because Irving was airlifted to hospital, doctors will have a better chance of saving Irving's foot instead of it needing amputation.
