Pictou MLA Charlie Parker nominated for Speaker of N.S. legislature

HALIFAX - A Pictou County MLA was nominated today for Speaker of Nova Scotia's House of Assembly.
Premier Darrell Dexter is putting Charlie Parker's name forward for consideration when members of the House vote to fill the position on Thursday.
Parker was first elected to the legislature in 1998 and has served as deputy speaker.
The Speaker presides over the Legislative Assembly as a sort of referee, maintaining order and regulating debate in accordance with House rules and practices.
