YARMOUTH, N.S. - The RCMP commercial crime unit is conducting a fraud investigation in Yarmouth, N.S., tied to the closure of several apartment buildings.
A spokesman for the force, Cst. Marl Connell, confirms the probe is connected to a complaint made to the RCMP.
Some Yarmouth landlords have told their tenants to get out and then closed their buildings.
Yarmouth Mayor Phil Mooney says council has been told some property owners were in arrears on bill payments and some buildings had their electricity shut off.
He said last week that 70 apartment units in the town had been emptied or were in the process of being emptied.
He said as many as 120 apartments from a variety of buildings could be affected in the coming months.
