MIRAMICHI, N.B. - Ottawa says the Atlantic region is getting $100 million from a federal fund that aims to help communities deal with the recession.
Keith Ashfield, the minister of state for ACOA, says projects could deal with reforestation, property redevelopment and business-related programs.
Ashfield says the fund could also be used to address other hard-hit industries including the lobster fishery.
He says Ottawa is continuing to work with Atlantic provincial governments and the lobster industry to develop a response to its current price crisis.
The money from the federal community adjustment fund will be doled out in the region by ACOA over two years.
The provincial allocations are: $28.7 million for New Brunswick; $33.6 million for Nova Scotia; $22.7 million for Newfoundland and Labrador; and $13.3 million for Prince Edward Island.
