GATINEAU, Que. - The president of the Canwest Global media group is blaming the regulatory system for what ails the country's traditional broadcasters.
Leonard Asper said neither the economic crisis, nor the debt that Canwest and other companies have on their books, is the cause of the current problems in conventional television.
Asper and his team appeared today before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.
The regulator is reviewing the licences for TV stations, including Canwest's Global network.
The CRTC is taking into consideration the precarious financial situation of many broadcasters, particularly Canwest.
