A witness at the scene says a five-tonne truck that slammed into a toll booth on Nova Scotia's Cobequid Pass took out half a dozen concrete traffic barriers before shearing off the side of the building attatched to the booth.
Steve Sharratt, an off duty reporter with the Charlottetown Guardian, says the man who was in the toll booth was trapped for about 40 minutes until he was extracted by emergency crews.
The injured man was flown to hospital by helicopter.
Sharratt says the truck driver, while hurt, appeared to be in good condition.
He says about six fire trucks are on the scene and crews are busy clearing debris and spilled fuel.
The mishap has led to traffic delays on that stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway.
