Somebeachsomewhere preparing for Matron Stakes in Delaware

DOVER, Del. - World champion Somebeachsomewhere will face five rivals in a US$41,000 elimination heat of the Matron Stakes for three-year-old pacers Monday night at Dover Downs. Harness racing's single-season biggest money winner ($2.4 milion) is expected to add to his season's total while advancing to the estimated $125,000 final on Dec. 13.
"He worked out today (Thursday) and was really strong." said trainer Brent MacGrath, the Truro car salesman who is one of the six members of the ownership group, the Schooner Stable.
Twelve horses declared in for the Matron and will race in two elimination heats with the top four finishers advancing to the final.
Somebeachsomewhere drew Post 4 in his split while Santanna Blue Chip, co-owned and trained by Wallace native Carl Jamieson drew the rail in the other division.
Santanna Blue Chip is also expected to advance to the final.
