PARRSBORO: Parrsboro Home Hardware is one of 22 locations in Canada taking part in tree planting in conjunction with Tree Canada.
On Sept. 23, various volunteers gathered at the Fundy Geological Museum to plant 16 trees celebrating Maple Leaf Day.
Maple Leaf Day is celebrated annually the last Wednesday in September during National Forest Week.
"This is a day Canadian's are asked to reflect on the link between their lives and the maple leaf - a symbol of Canadians' historical economic, and environmental link to trees," Heidi Blenkhorn from Parrsboro Home Hardware said.
"The trees we are planting today are in addition to more than 15,500 trees that Tree Canada has already planted with Home Hardware dealers and community volunteers across the country since 2000," Rhea Mahar Nova Scotia Community Advisor from Tree Canada said.
"Along with myself, Parrsboro planting has been organized by Heidi Blenkhorn and Rose Blenkhorn of Parrsboro Home Hardware. Tree Canada is fortunate to have the support of corporate citizens like Home Hardware helping us grow clean air," Mahar said.
The sixteen trees planted at the Fundy Geological Museum on September 23 were; five Lindens, three Red Spruce, three Eastern White Pines and five shrubs (Viburnums).
