PUGWASH  The barn doors are being thrown open to the public at three Cumberland County farms as the province prepares to celebrate Open Farm Day. This is a great opportunity for people to see what we do, says Pugwash-area farmer John Duynisveld. This is fun for the kids and informative for adults. Duynisveld, who had taken part in the program since it began five years ago, says the event gets bigger every year. The farms do all kids of different activities and demonstations, he said. At ours we have a goat milking demonstation while some others offer samples of their products. The big thing is people can see how our products are raised and experience it first-hand. Open Farm Day is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 23. Agriculture has an important role in providing us with the foods and products we use every day, yet many of us dont have the opportunity to visit a farm to see how it all works, said Agriculture Minister Brooke Taylor. Farmers feed us all, and this is a great opportunity to enjoy local produce and thank a farmer. Last year, more than 9,500 visitors took advantage of Open Farm Day. This year, 40 farms will participate in the event. bworks@amherstdaily.com Straitside Holsteins Type: Dairy. Tie stall barn for approximately 40 milking cows.
