As guest speaker at the partys annual local fundraising dinner, Dooks covered a number of topics, from his governments record to his relationship with Cumberland South MLA and Justice Minister Murray Scott, to some of the files in his energy portfolio. Among those files are the tidal power developments that he all but guaranteed are certain to bring economic benefit to the Parrsboro shore and Cumberland County.

Just a short time after the environmental assessment is finished, there will be a pilot project in the Bay of Fundy, said Dooks. Its going to be exciting news for you folks and your community, and its going to create a new opportunity of economic growth for you guys.

With the potential to produce from only two test sites enough electricity to support 100,000 homes with green energy, the minister said he is positive that this development will proceed in the next number of years. Depending on fossil fuels to create energy is a part of the past, he explained, gesturing to the nearby Bay of Fundy as one of the clean and accepted new sources of energy.

I cant say for sure tonight, but I think that your community will benefit from that, he said.

Other energy opportunities in Cumberland County Dooks spoke about included wind power, geothermal and coal bed methane, which he said would ensure economic benefit for the regions.

This government is positioning us to meet the 21st century, he said. Were focused and moving ahead, not only as a community but as a province, and thats a promise from cabinet to you.

Speaking in front of a packed house at the legion, Dooks spoke without a microphone or notes, walking back and forth in front of the crowd like a stand-up comedian and delivering his lines like a tent revival preacher. He was well received by the large crowd of Tory faithful.

Scott introduced Dooks as not only a colleague, but also a very good friend who has been supportive of this area and any efforts Scott has put forth in the legislature.
