AMHERST - The young, the elderly and everyone in between were at Amherst Stadium last night as the Ramblers honoured Matthew Squires for his many years of service to the organization.

After the pre-game ceremony, whereby Squires achievements were celebrated, his sister Robyn dropped the puck and the game got under way against the Bridgewater Lumberjacks.

The Ramblers won the game 3-2.

The Ramblers came out of the gates flying with a heavy barrage of body checks and scored their first goal only 2:24 into the game.

Adam Verrette scored the goal with assists coming from Adam Chipman and Kelan Herr.

Just 28 seconds later the Lumberjacks tied it up.

Squires then tallied a goal off assists from Paul Roebothan and Trevor Layton, making it a 2-1 game.

But before the period ended the Lumberjacks tied it up 2-2.

In the second period the Ramblers went ahead 3-2 off a goal by Adam Chipman.

Assisting on the goal was Justin Matthews and Travis Turner.

The Ramblers held on to the lead despite the fact the Lumberjacks played six on three hockey for the last two minutes as the Ramblers had two players in the box and Bridgewater had pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker.

Their was only one fight in the game and surprisingly it was rookie Kody Orr who let his fists do the talking in his fight against Trevor Leblanc.

Andrew Flemming played in net and shots on goal were 46-35 in favour of the Ramblers.

On Friday night the Ramblers lost to the Woodstock Slammers by a score of 5-3.

Scoring for the Ramblers in the losing effort was Jonathan Pardy, Layton and Derek Smith, with assists being tallied by Zach Carson, Jeremy Barron, Roebothan and Squires.

Flemming was once again in goal for the Ramblers and he faced 33 shots in total.

The Ramblers travel to Summerside this afternoon to play the Western Capitals. Game time is 2 p.m.
