Celebrating a victory

AMHERST – It begins.

The Amherst Ramblers defeated the Truro Bearcats in a 3-2 over time victory Saturday night. It was the first in a best-of-seven Bent Division semi-final series.

More than 1,100 spectators filled the Amherst Stadium to watch their team take on its Truro rival. The Bearcats posted the first goal at 4:56 in the first period. Shane O’Byrne, assisted by Ryan Matheson, answered at 9:35. Trevor Layton served a minor penalty for hooking.

The second period was scoreless, although Truro received three minor penalties.

In the third period, however, Maxime Richard made a statement – assisted by Layton and Brandon Street – dropping the puck in the net just 56 seconds in. The score was 2-1 and there it sat for 18 minutes. Victory was a breath away when Truro scored at 19:07. Each team received a minor penalty that period.

The Ramblers didn’t keep the crowd on the edges of their seats for long. Just 1:26 into OT, Maxime Richard again paid a visit to Spencer Scott, with help from Layton and Mathieu Boudreau. End of game, 3-2.

Game 2 is Tuesday night, 7:30 p.m., at the Colchester Legion Stadium.

A win is a win and hope that the Ramblers can keep the momentum going in Truro Tomorrow night. Although Amherst won 3-2, from my point of view behind the net, Truro scored a goal, not sure why the referee called it no goal, sure took him long enough to decide, the puck hit the back(inside) of the net and came back out. Like I said a win is a win. Yarmouth squeaked by Metro last night, so anything is possible in that series(with the next game in Metro). Hope to make the trip to Truro with several loyal Rambler fans.
