Amhersts Carson in fifth at NSGA junior championships

NORTH SYDNEY - Zach Carson of Amherst is in the hunt for a provincial team spot through 54 holes at the Nova Scotia Golf Association junior championships at Seaview Golf and Country Club.
Carson bogeyed three holes and birdied another en route to a 75 on Wednesday. His three-round total sits at 225, tied for fifth spot with James Holland of Ken Wo.
Eric Locke of The Pines Resort in Digby remains in the lead at 207 after a 64 in the third round while Truro's Eric Banks moved into second spot with a 66. He sits four strokes behind Locke.
Ally Tidcombe of Ken Wo, who sat one stroke back heading into Wednesday's play, fell off the pace a bit with a 70 for a 214 total.
Ken Wo's Sam Holland sits in sole possession of fourth at 224 after a 74 on Wednesday. Mark Canfield of Northumberland carded a 76 (227) to fall one stroke back of Peter MacLaren, who golfs out of the Parrsboro Golf Club but lives in Halifax.
The top four finishers after today's final round will represent the province at the Canadian championships in Kitchener, Ont., in early August.
The top four boys and girls travel to Cavendish, P.E.I., next week for the CN Future Links Championships.
Bedford's Irene Jung has a 19-stroke lead in the girls championship through three rounds.
