Richard Hope scored a game-high 32 points and the Amherst Regional High School Vikings built up a 21-point lead early in the second half en route to a 86-72 win over the Rothesay Red Hawks to win the bronze medal at the ARHS Christmas Classic Boy's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.
Ryan Budd scored 22 points for the Vikings, who pulled away from the Red Hawks late in the first half, while Sammy Mohamad added 15 points. Kevin LePage scored 12 points and Shaddy Mohamad added four for the Vikings.
Tom Lutes had 22 points for Rothesay while Liam Shea scored 18 and Brandon Churchill added 14 and Cameron Mosley 11 for the Red Hawks.
Ben Power with two and Nick Rouse and Christopher Schaerer with one apiece also scored.
In the championship, the Charlottetown Rural Raiders jumped out to an early lead and defeated the Three Oaks Axemen 55-43.
Tournament most valuable player Aaron Robbins scored 20 points while Andrew Clark added 11 for Charlottetown Rural while Kyle Welton added nine.
Rounding out scoring for the Raiders were: Patrick Davis with five points, Simon Kang scored four and Kyle Gillis, Sean Seviour and Frank Folwell each scored two.
Kendal Steele scored 11 to lead Three Oaks while Will Brawn had 10, Andrew Smith had seven, Scott Dewar and Brett Montgomery and Chris Tompson each had four.
North Nova won the fifth-place game with a 70-54 win over Avon View with Bradley Johnson leading the way with a 24-point performance.
Former Amherst resident Bryson MacDonald had 14 for North Nova while David Benoit added 13, Grayson MacDonald added six, Evan Lorimer and Keir Freehan each scored four, Dylan Mulder and Kyle Fraser each had three and Terrell Bordan and Sean Munroe scored two each.
Jared Fielden scored 28 for Avon View with Alex Dalton scoring nine, Luke Redden and Tevaughn Scott each scoring six and Lucas Chambers adding two. while Hants North finished seventh with a 77-66 win over the Pugwash District High Panthers.
Kyle Harvey, Colby Turple and Brian Hamilton each scored 15 points for Hants North while Sean Harvey had 13 points, Jeremy Brown had seven, Anthony Miller scored three and Matt White and Brett Vanderkooi each had two.
Matt Benjamin scored 26 for Pugwash while Kris Allen with 14 and Blaine Reid with 10 also scored.
Jeff Blaikie and Alex Parker each had six points for Pugwash with Hayden Tilt and Josh Borgal each scoring two.
Members of the all-star team included: Amherst's Sam Mohamad, Will Brawn of Three Oaks, Tom Lutes of Rothesay, Bradley Johnson of North Nova and Sean Seviour of Charlottetown Rural.
Bryson MacDonald of North Nova was named most sportsmanlike player and Scott Dewar was named top defensive player.
