AMHERST – The Amherst Athletics finished fourth at the Baseball Nova Scotia 2013 Midget AA Provincial Championships at Robb’s Centennial Complex on Sunday.

The Athletics lost to the Dartmouth Arrows 7-1 in the semi-finals, and Dartmouth went on to lose 7-2 to the Yarmouth Gateways in the championship game.

“We did better than we all thought we would from the amount of games we got in over the season. We didn’t get too many games in,” said Athletics coach John Murray. “But, although we didn’t have many games, we came together as a team for this tournament and strung together a couple hard-fought wins. They all had fun and became a team.”

Murray is proud of his team and proud of his pitchers.

“I had a first-year pitcher and I had my ace from last year and they did very well,” said Murray.

This year’s team was quite young and they have a lot of players coming up from Bantam next year.

Murray thanked everybody from the town for their support, thanked the team sponsors and the players, and said, “get ready for next year boys.”
