Y’s Guys take 2-1 lead in championship series

AMHERST – The Cumberland Paving Cubs won their best-of-three Amherst Little League consolation series Monday night against the Casey Concrete Mixers.

The Cubs won Game 3 by a score of 12-9.

With the game 10-9 at the end of the fifth inning, the Cubs came out in the top of the sixth and scored two points. Although the Mixers threatened with runners on base in the bottom of the sixth, they were unable to score, and the score stood at 12-9.

Cal Hoeg pitched the first two innings for the Cubs and Brandon Hicks pitched the final four.

They combined to strike out four batters, and gave up 12 hits and six walks.

 Mika Porter hit a double and a single for the Cubs, while Hoeg, Ethan Casey and Reese McLean each hit a double. Hicks, Zack Gould and Elliot McNutt hit one single each.

Jill Gallant pitched four innings for the Mixers and Jackson Colborne came in for relief in the last two.

The combined to strike out 12 batters, and gave up eight hits and nine walks.

Josh Arsenault hit two doubles; while Gallant added a double and single, and Cam Vance hit a double. Colborne and Reese Blakeney hit two singles each and Riley Girouard, Dylan Jolly and Ethan Bishop hit one single each.

Y’s Guys vs. Lions

The Y’s Guys took a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five championship series Monday night with a 7-6 win over the Lions.

Nate Stone struck out nine batters for the Y’s Guy’s, giving up seven hits and six walks.

Aaron Sjanic hit a double, while Stone and J.D. Pettigrew hit two singles each for the Y’s Guys.

Jackson Comeau and Brady Crowe hit one single each.

Michael Farrell pithed the first two innings for the Lions and Graden Chitty came in for relief.

Farrell struck out three batters, and gave up seven hits and two walks.

Chitty struck out one batter and gave up two walks.

Mats Stone hit a home run and two doubles for the Lions. Matthew Hunter added one double, while Jordan MacKenzie, Chitty and Cole Stevens hit one single each.

Game 4 is Wednesday at 6 p.m.
