The Springhill Golden Eagles might not have won the Division 3 Girls Slopitch Provincial Championship, but they did make it to the semi-finals, losing by just one point to the Oxford Golden Bears.
The game was tied 10-10 at the bottom of the seventh inning when the Bears scored a run and won the game 11-10, as the rain came down on a muddy Lions Field in Amherst.
"We're absolutely pleased with the way they played today," SHS coach Mike O'Brien said. "We lost a couple girls and we had new people in new positions, so they did very well."
Springhill started off the tournament on Friday by beating Parrsboro 8-7, but later in the day they lost to Inverness 22-10.
On Saturday they beat Bridgewater 8-4, earning a spot in the semi-final against Oxford.
O'Brien said the girls had a great season.
"They play very well together and we had lots of fun," he said. "They're fierce competitors and they're a unique group of girls. You never know what's going to come out of their mouths."
Five of the Golden Eagles will be graduating this year, so they will have a lot of young girls on the roster next year.
"We're losing five seniors and the majority of our infield," O'Brien said. "We had a great year this year but next year will be a rebuild year."
