Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, I would like to express congratulations to an amazing Nova Scotian – Emily Forrest.
Emily has recently completed a 2,995 km walking journey around the entire coastline of Nova Scotia. During her adventure, Emily logged an astonishing 3.4 million steps on her pedometer and stopped in over 88 communities.
From the moment her adventure began in May, Emily’s goal has been to inspire Nova Scotians to walk and, as a result, take steps towards better health and well–being.
She has also been committed to promoting the vision of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia’s signature program – Heart&Stroke Walkabout. That vision is a revitalized culture of walking in Nova Scotia. Through her actions, her travels and her words, Emily has encouraged people to get outside and walk and to participate in the Walkabout program by tracking their steps online at www.walkabout.ns.ca.
The Heart&Stroke Walkabout is about building and supporting a culture of walking in Nova Scotia; however, it is people like Emily – who are taking steps to be active and healthy – that set an example and personify what Walkabout is all about.
Whether you want to walk 3.4 million steps – or a few less – walking benefits your health and takes you places.
Menna MacIsaac, CEO
