AMHERST – Amherst Police are investigating an alleged assault that saw a 29-year-old man sent to hospital with minor injuries.

Police were called to an apartment on Crescent Avenue on Friday night.

The victim is facing a charge of breaching his probation order and he will appear in provincial court on March 3 to enter a plea.

Police are continuing to investigate the assault complaint.

Officers responded to 22 complaints over the weekend.

On Friday night, police were called to a false alarm at a residence on Penny Lane, while a two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Albion and Pleasant Street.

One of the vehices involved had run into the rear of another vehicle causing minor damage.

Road conditions were poor at the time due to snowy conditions.

No injuries were reported.

A 28-year-old man is facing charges of breaching his recognizance following an incident on West Pleasant Street. Police went to his residence to check to see if he was abiding by his curfew conditions, but the man was not in compliance when checked.

On Saturday, police received a report of a possible impaired driver on Church Street. Patrols were made, but the vehicle was not located.

Officers also went to a false alarm at a business on Victoria Street and received a complaint of a theft of alcohol from the liquor store on LaPlanche Street. A 28-year-old man and a 43-year-old man were identified through video surveillance and are facing several charges including theft and breaching their conditions.

On Sunday, police received a loud music complaint about a residence on Church Street. The owner of the residence was asked to turn the music down.

Police were dispatched to a hit and run report on Clifford Street. Witnesses said a vehicle clearing snow struck a parked vehicle and left the scene. Police are investigating.

Also, officers received a complaint of harassing text messages toward a female living on Albion Street. Police are investigating.
