Amherst Police charge man following break and enter into LaPlanche Street home

AMHERST – A 29-year-old man was arrested following an alleged break and enter at a residence on LaPlanche Street on Sunday.

A search warrant was executed at another residence and some stolen tools were recovered inside.

The man appeared in court on Monday for election and plea.

Amherst Police responded to 35 complaints over the weekend.

On Friday night, police were called to a fight at a downtown bar. An investigation identified one of the two parties involved and charges of breaching probation are likely against him as he was on conditions to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.

Police were also called to two noise complaints on Crescent Avenue. The property owners involved were warned about the noise and there were no further issues.

On Saturday, a licence plate was reported stolen from a vehicle on Park Street. The public is asked to notify police if the plate (ECM 986) is located.

Officers were also asked to investigate the theft of a large quantity of copper wire from a Nova Scotia Power substation on Church Street.

On Saturday night, police were asked to remove a male from a downtown area bar after he became disruptive.

The 44-year-old man was removed without incident.

Police were also called to a noise complaint on Spring Street. The homeowner was warned to keep the noise levels at an acceptable level.

Officers received numerous complaints of young people throwing objects at houses on Sunday.

Incidents were reported at residences on Spring Street, Beacon Street and Russell Street.

Some youths have been identified, but it’s unknown if the incidents were related.

The investigation is continuing.
