Party leader visiting 35 ridings in campaign’s final days

As the provincial election campaign enters the final days, Liberal leader Stephen McNeil is taking nothing for granted.

Nova Scotia Liberal leader Stephen McNeil talks to supporters of Cumberland North candidate Terry Farrell during a whistlestop tour in Amherst early Sunday. McNeil visited 11 locations on Saturday and will visit 12 on Sunday.

AMHERST – His party is way ahead in the polls, but Stephen McNeil is taking nothing for granted.

The Liberal leader kicked off the second day of his provincewide whistle stop tour in Amherst early Sunday, greeting campaign workers for Cumberland North Liberal candidate Terry Farrell.

“We’re giving each of the teams a bit of support and encouragement for all their hard work up until this point and to remind them that election day is Tuesday,” McNeil said. “We have to push to the finish.”

From Amherst, McNeil was heading to Oxford to support the campaign of Cumberland South candidate Kenny John Jackson and to Masstown to support Karen Casey.

The campaign bus has stops in Stewiacke, Elmsdale, Fall River, Tantallon, Mahone Bay, Bridgewater, Beechville, Spryfield and Armdale before concluding in Halifax on Sunday evening.

The tour made 11 stops Saturday in Cape Breton, Antigonish, New Glasgow and Truro.

“It has been very encouraging the last couple of days. We’re continuing to make sure people work hard to the very hand, but it will be nice to get home for a night,” McNeil said.

McNeil said Nova Scotians are ready for change and he’s reaching out to traditional Progressive Conservative voters to help him replace the NDP government with a Liberal one.

As much as poll numbers are encouraging, so too is the reception he’s receiving at every campaign stop. He also suggests every riding in the province is in play, making it important to put that extra effort in over the next few days as the campaign enters the final dash to the finish.
