Storm could hit area on weekend

Nova Scotia could feel the remnants of tropical storm Gabrielle on the weekend.

AMHERST – Nova Scotia could be facing heavy rain and wind this weekend as the remnants of tropical storm Gabrielle move east of Cape Breton.

Gabrielle reformed Tuesday after spending four-and-a-half days drifting northward as a weak tropical low.

A statement from the Canadian Hurricane Centre said a moderate wind shear environment may prevent further intensification, but most computer models keep it going as a 40 to 50 knot storm that will move toward Nova Scotia and Newfoundland later this week – possibly Friday and Saturday.

With an expected track east of Cape Breton heavy rain could be an issue over Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Newfoundland is expected to be on the warmer, windier side of the storm.
