Milo needs surgery

Milo’s surgery is expected to cost $2,500 and owner, Lisa Welton is calling on the community to help her cause.

RIVER HEBERT – The human-canine bond is a powerful relationship that’s not easily broken.

Lisa Welton has had her dog Milo for about three years now and the bond that was formed three years ago is only growing stronger.

“She’s always had anxiety problems and has always been stuck to me. Every time she leaves without me she panics. She’s lost without me.”

Milo is a Great Dane who requires a common, yet costly surgery to repair the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) in the rear right knee.

The pain that the dog is enduring is evident, as a slight limp and weight loss is visible.  It’s very unpleasant to watch, Welton said.

“For a human, it’d be like taking a baseball bat and smashing your knee cap.”

Welton took her to the vet in April, where surgery was the suggested course of action as pain medication would be too costly, at $100 a month.

The surgery is expected to cost $2,500.

Welton had pets before, but Milo is unlike any pet she ever had. From day one she stuck to Welton like glue and never caused any problems.

“I love her to pieces. She’s been the best dog I’ve ever had in my life.”

Welton will stop at nothing to save her dog’s life and is calling on the community to help her in the funding of Milo’s surgery. Welton is hoping to raise the money through donations made in her or Milo’s name at the Animal Hospital in Amherst.

Welton who is a self proclaimed animal lover found inspiration in helping animals through this experience.

“I’ve already made up my mind. I want to become a veterinarian or anything to do with animals. I loved animals since I was young.”

The road to surgery and recovery has begun, but there’s a long way to go. And for every step Milo takes, Welton will be by her side doing anything she can.

“I’ve never had to deal with something like this before and it has not been easy.”

Anyone want to pay for my puppys surgery? I have a 7 month old lab that is going in for the same surgery in a month, I'm a university student at DAL as well. Take responsibility and dont get a free ride!

My retriever needed the same surgery 7 years ago at the age of 3. Today Jasper is still doing well. I'm donating $100 to help Milo and I challenge others to donate as well.
