AMHERST – The Fundy Robins Donuts/Pharmasave United are in Bridgewater this weekend competing in the Soccer Nova Scotia Under-14 Tier 2B Championships.

The Fundy squad, which claimed its zone championship with a 4-0 win over Antigonish a couple of weeks ago, opens at 10 a.m. on Saturday against Harbour East from the Halifax area before meeting the suburban Halifax representative at 2 p.m.

They complete round robin play on Sunday at 10 a.m. against South Shore 1.

The bronze and gold medal games go later Sunday.

Co-coach Doug Hart said he’s not aware of how strong the other teams will be, but said he’s very pleased with how his club has played.

“We’ve had a very good season,” Hart said. “The boys have played very well all season and it was nice to be able to beat Antigonish to win the region. It was our best team effort of the season.”

Defensively, he said, the club is pretty strong, using a flat-four formation implemented by co-coach Laoghan Hendra, who also coaches the boy’s soccer team at E.B. Chandler.

The club is also pretty quick offensively and is able to score. Kansas Hart was the second leading scorer in the Highland League with 14 goals, one behind the top scorer.

Hart, Landen Clarke and Reuben MacKenzie have played the striker role for the club this season while defensively, Tristan MacEachern, Patrick Liebmann, Ryan Pye and Dustin Pipes have worked the flat-four formation well.

Max Hoar, Liam Starratt and Sam Wade have patrolled the midfield.
