Police charge woman following domestic dispute

Amherst Police responded to 29 complaints over the weekend.

AMHERST – A 29-year-old woman was arrested and charged with mischief and assault following a domestic dispute at a West Victoria Street residence on Saturday.

It’s alleged that the female had scratched her partner then pulled out the wires out of the telephone to prevent the victim from calling the police.

She will appear in Amherst provincial court on May 6.

Amherst Police responded to 29 complaints over the weekend.

Police went to a Copp Avenue apartment to check on a 19-year-old male on Friday to make sure he was abiding by his probation order. The male was not present and a charge of violating his probation is pending.

Officers arrested a 38-year-old man at a downtown area bar and charged him with two counts of violating his probation order. He was drinking alcohol in the bar and violating his curfew.

Charges are pending.

Police were called to a Havelock Street residence to deal with a reported domestic dispute. A female alleged she had been pushed by a male during an argument.

The female was uninjured from the alleged assault and police are continuing to investigate.

Also on Friday, police went to a Dickey Street apartment after callers reported yelling and glass breaking from inside the apartment. Police located two women inside the apartment and determined that no assault had taken place.

The matter is still under investigation.

Police went to a downtown area bar on complaints people were there contrary to their probation conditions. The individuals left the bar prior to the officers’ arrival, but some of them are facing possible charges of breaching their probation.

On Saturday, a suspicious male went to several downtown businesses soliciting money. Several callers reported that the male became irate when no money was given.

Police did extensive patrols of the area, but the man was not located.

On Sunday, a vehicle was went through in the Pinehurst Street area. A lighter and assorted make-up were taken from the vehicle.

    "On Sunday, a vehicle was went through in the Pinehurst Street area." "Was WENT through? " English being the language of this newspaper, should not the sentence read "was gone through" or even, "was searched"?
