SPRINGHILL – Like a quarterback blitzing towards a touchdown, Hurricane Earl's trajectory bounced left and then right of Cumberland County as the category 1 hurricane downgraded to a tropical storm on Saturday.

Early Friday afternoon it was speculated Hurricane Earl would touch land with Amherst in its sights but by the end of the day predictions saw its course move west toward Shediac, N.B.

Saturday morning Hurricane Earl became Tropical Storm Earl and again shifted its direction, this time Eastward towards Mahone Bay on the South Shore.

In Springhill, Saturday opened with grey skies and drizzle progressing to rain with some wind at noon, but none of the destruction many feared would come to the area.

As of noon, Saturday, Tropical Storm Earl blew over Charleston with 112 km/hr winds and a trajectory towards Truro.

Temperatures for Saturday afternoon were 22º and the forecast for Sunday is sunny with a daytime high of 22º.
