OXFORD - Returning popular activities and new additions promise to make this year's Cumberland County Exhibition a memorable one.
Office administrator Megan Fahey said last week that plans for the annual event are running on schedule, and should be well in order by the time it kicks off on Aug. 31. This year's exhibition runs until Sept. 4.
New this year is a step and wheelchair ramp built in the industrial building, to make it easier for all patrons to enter and exit the dining area during the exhibition, said Fahey.
"We're making things a little more accessible, in that sense," she said. "The mud is in the arena, we're doing some work on the barns, and getting them cleaned up and painted. We're doing a lot of painting this year, trying to fix some things up around on the grounds."
Everyone is doing their part and working away really well, according to Fahey, who said she is more comfortable in her role the second time around.
"Not that it was hard last year, but it's a lot smoother for me this year," she said. "I know more about what's going on, and can fit into the role a little better with more experience. I'm really enjoying it... it's a great bunch of people to work with."
Fahey is excited about the entertainment booked for this year's exhibition, including the Pig's and Jigs children's show on Saturday in the industrial building, featuring puppets, music, magic tricks, etc.
Other highlights include the Sons of Maxwell on Thursday night, southern country/rock band Witchitaw on Saturday night, and a mustang horse show that will be held over two nights. Also booked for two days is a "comedy car" show featuring a clown and an antique car.
Also returning will be popular acts such as the Elliotts and the Spinney Brothers. Coming back to provide rides and midway activities will be G&G Amusements, while many booth operators will also be back, along with several newcomers.
"We have a full schedule this year, so I think it's good, and people seem interested," said Fahey. "There have been a lot of people in this year, picking up books and schedules early, and looking for information."
