Hi again from beautiful Downtown New Salem. I hope you've all had a wonderful week.

Susan Wakefield and Nigel Field of Halifax spent the weekend at their home here.

On Friday, June 18, Spencer's Island Bingo will be held at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, June 19, a church service will be held at the Advocate United Church at 2 p.m. with guest speaker Derek Mumford.

On Thursday, June 24, the Summer Reading Club kick-off party will be held at the Advocate library from 3-4 p.m. This year's Summer Reading Club has a jungle theme and I think the kids will enjoy the activities I am planning for the summer.

On Friday, June 25, prom will be held at the Advocate school. Pictures will be from 7-8 p.m., followed by the dance from 8-11 p.m.

Graduation for Grades 5-12 will take place on Monday, June 28 at 7 p.m at the Advocate school.

Elementary graduation will be held on Tuesday, June 29 at 9 a.m. at the Advocate school.

On Thursday, July 1, Canada Day celebrations will be held at the log building, starting at noon. There will be sack races, three-legged races, water balloon tosses and, best of all, a water slide, and they are all free! There will also be a cake walk, $5 per child. Hot dogs, hamburgers, pop, water and freezies will be for sale. There will be tea, coffee and Canada cake for free!. This event is being sponsored by the A.D.D.A.

It's time to mark the Aug. 14 weekend on your calendar, as that will be the annual bazaar weekend.  There will be a variety show on Thursday, Aug. 12, an auction on Friday, Aug. 13 and parade, supper and everything else on Saturday, Aug. 14.

I am now selling Parrsboro Community Radio Bingo cards. If you have high speed service you can play online at home or if you wish you can come to the library on Thursday evenings to play. Bingo is from 6-7 p.m. The cards are $3 for a book of two cards for five games. This week the jackpot is $1,000 in 45 numbers and the looney ball is worth $3,150.

The Downshore Market and Coffee House is back for the 2010 season at the log building on Mills Road from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday mornings. Come and enjoy a social morning with new and old friends.

If you want to lose weight, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday night at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m.

I also wanted to mention the gym equipment that is available at the log building. The cost is $1 to use the equipment, which consists of two tread mills, a universal weight machine, an eliptical machine and a stationary bike.

Well, that's it for this week. Have a great weekend and enjoy your family and friends!
