Armstrong sworn in
OTTAWA - Cumberland Colchester Musquodoboit Valley's newest member of Parliament was officially sworn in on Wednesday.
Scott Armstrong's parents, Tillie and David Armstrong, attended the ceremony and others were trying to make arrangements Monday after being notified of the swearing in.
Armstrong won the Nov. 9 byelection garnering nearly 46 per cent of the 24,359 votes cast.
Doctors complete course on portable ultrasound machine
AMHERST - Twelve doctors from Cumberland County spent the weekend at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre learning the ins and outs of a portable ultrasound to be used in emergency departments in hospitals.
Dr. Chuck Wursten, emergency physician at Dartmouth General Hospital, brought the course to the Amherst hospital to train 16 doctors, 12 from the immediate area, with the EDE (Emergency Department Echo) Course to promote the safe, effective and potentially life saving use of ultrasound in emergency departments.
Marsh selected for study
AMHERST - The marsh between Amherst and Sackville has been selected as one of six Nova Scotia areas to participate in a study that will make recommendations on managing the impact of climate change, especially along the Isthmus of Chignecto.
The Atlantic Regional Adaptation Collaborative is one of six taking place around the country with support from the federal and provincial governments as well as municipalities and other stakeholders.
Green said the need to do something is now with temperatures expected to rise globally by two to four degrees Celcius before 2100. At the same time, sea levels are anticipated to rise and storms become more severe resulting in increased storm surges.
