SACKVILLE, N.B. – Following the success of their recent New Years Revue, Streuth!, Sackville’s community theatre company has made a quick turnaround from all that hilarity and frivolity, and is offering a change of pace.

Shakespeare’s Will is a one-woman drama, loosely based on the life of Anne Hathaway and her marriage to William Shakespeare. The play, crafted by Vern Thiessen, was nominated for the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award for Outstanding New Play and premiered in Edmonton in 2005. Since then it has been performed around the world. The inspiration for the play was drawn from excerpts from William Shakespeare’s actual will. But full on historical biography it is not! This is because despite being married to the most famous playwright and poet of all time, very little has ever been written about Anne.

Alison Hart’s acting talent and experience will bring Anne Hathaway to life, allowing the audience to see her for what she could have been: neither angel nor devil, but a woman who lived, loved, and did her best for her family. Under the skilled direction of Stephen Puddle, the layers are slowly peeled away, revealing a woman, and a life that one might not expect from the wife of William Shakespeare.

Performances of Shakespeare’s Will are set for Wednesday, March 26, through to Sunday, March 30, at the Maritime Conference Centre. As usual, tickets can be bought by phoning 536-1904. Visit The Performers’ Company website at for more details.
