Condolences are sent out to the family and friends of two local area natives who passed away recently:  Maccan post mistress Alice Margaret Dwyer, 86, of Maccan who passed away on February 17, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan and Joggins native Gordon St. Clair Greer of Peterborough who passed away suddenly on February 18. He was 70 years old.

This past weekend, skip Ray Fowler, Ron Hoeg, Robin Keith and John Greer represented Amherst at the Men's and Women's senior provincial curling championships at the Amherst Curling Club. Additional men's skips were Rob Harris, Bryan MacPherson, Alan O'Leary, Steve Ogden, Reid Romkey, Scott Saunders, Kelly Terry and Stephen Thompson. Women’s teams were skipped by Mary Mattatal, Jocelyn Nix and Colleen Pinkney. The senior championships wrapped up Tuesday. As of press time, Hoeg’s team sported a 2 and 1 record.

Congratulations to RHDE mini-boys Raiders basketball players Brandon Hicks and Bayden Taylor for winning MVP and Hustle awards respectively this past weekend in a game during the Moncton Hawks Selects Invitational basketball tournament.

As of press time, the RHDE mini boys Raiders sported a 2-1 tournament record.

This coming Friday and Saturday at RHDH, the River Hebert Elementary mini female Raiders basketball team will be hosting a mini-girls basketball tournament.

On Saturday, March 1 starting at 6:00 pm, the Joggins legion will be hosting a Wing Night for just $6.00 per order. Enjoy the music of Billy Legere and friends.

New Horizons card party results for February 17-Ladies’ first place: Emmie Porter; ladies’ second place: Laura Brown. Men’s first place: Fred Hebert; men’s second place: Henry Burke; door prize: Donnie Melanson; consolation prize: Irene Hebert.
