Soup kitchen

The Salvation Army B.E.A.C.O.N. Café will be serving soup and sandwiches at The Salvation Army Thrift Store (basement) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Donations are welcome but not expected. All are welcome.

Scrabble Xtravaganza

Scrabble Xtravaganza @ your library

will take place at the Four Fathers Memorial Library in Amherst from 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Card Play @ your library

Help celebrate games in the library week! Adults are welcome to drop in to play cards at the River Hebert Library from 2-7 p.m. Enter to win a Wii system.

Workshop for kids

Where Did I Come From? A free evening program for 9-12 year old boys and girls and their parents will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Inter-active workshop to share and learn about loving relationships,

family values around sexual activity, facts about conception, pregnancy, childbirth. Pre-register: Phone the Sexual Health Centre at 667-7500.

Apple Day

The Amherst and Area Scouts Canada troops will be holding apple day with a door-to-door canvas and well as spots at local business. Please give generously when you see a Beaver, Cub or Scout on Apple Day. Apple Day continues on Oct. 23.

Wii day

There’s No School Let’s Play Wii! will take place for grades Primary to 6, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Amherst Library. Enjoy some friendly competition with your classmates playing Sonic All Star Racing, Mario Party and more. Call 667-2549 to register.

Auction 45’s

Fall Breakfast

All Saints Hospital Auxiliary will host their annual “Fall Breakfast” at the Lamp Cabin from 8:30-11 a.m. There will be pantry/candy tables, door prizes and a 50/50 draw. For additional information or to purchase tickets, contact Hannah McSavaney at 597-3237.


The Apple River potluck church supper will take place at the Apple River Hall from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Meatballs, potato scallop, salads, beans and desserts.


A haunted hay ride will be held from 4 to 6 and 7 to 10 p.m. at the Glooscap Campground in support of the Parrsboro area Girl Guides Association.

Rummage Sale

Trinity St. Stephen’s UCW will host a rummage sale at Burgess Hall, 1 Ratchford St. 9 a.m.- noon. Good used fall clothing and other items.

Bake and Craft sale

A bake and craft sale will be held at the Rodney Hall from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Celebration tea

Lord Amherst Chapter IODE is holding a 100th anniversary celebration Tea from 2 - 4 p.m., at Christ Church Parish Hall.

Open mic

An open mic event will take place at the Diligent River Community Hall at 7 p.m.

Fundraising supper

The R.C.A.F. Association,105 Cumberland Wing is having a roast beef supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Eat-in or Take out. Deliveries in town. Live and chinese auction following supper. All Proceeds go to support the Air Cadets. All welcome, Inquiries 667-9262.

Hallowe’en Supper

A Halloween supper will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the River Philip Hall and will feature a choice of lasagna or spaghetti with apple crisp & ice cream for dessert. Sponsored by the River Philip Hall Association.

Fashion show

Holy Family Parish Fashion Show & Luncheon, 63 Church Street at 2 p.m. Fashions for the whole family. Many door prizes.

4-H meeting

Fashion Show

Amherst CWC will host an evening of fun and fashions 6 to 8 at the Wandlyn Inn. Included is a Country Fried Chicken Dinner, music and inspirational speaker. Reservations necessary. Phone 667-3729.

Haunted Village

A miniature haunted village will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and will feature ghost stories, treats and more. Light refreshments will be served. Proceeds from goodwill donations will go to local charities.

Location is 1925 Highway 6 on the Sunrise Trail, eight kilometers from Amherst.

45s tournament

A 45s tournament will be held at the Springhill Senior Citizen’s Centre at 4 McDougal St. at 7:30 pm.
